Don't let the early 20th century style throw you off, this is one of the best books for those learning to invent figures (as opposed to drawing from a model). Many professional comics artists and illustrators use and recommend it.
- Drawing the Head and Hands, Andrew Loomis
Goes into more depth on these often challenging aspects of drawing people.
- Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, Betty Edwards
Exersices for improving your drawing skills — valuable even for accomplished artists. You should be able to find older editions used or in libraries.
